Video Art

Video Art Piece

recording by my webcam because the software kept crashing when i tried to render it out. sorry for the awful quality

Reflection

This semester has been quite an exprience and i've learned stuff, and seen things that i would probably never understood without this class. when learning about art i think its important to understand the 'Why'. even if its the fact that there is none. my confort zone has ben completely shattered with the assignments i've been through. the worst mentally was going out and creating a performance piece. but once i got one cable wrapped around me another wasnt' that big of a deal. Technically the worst was the video art which for some reason made my computer turn off every time i tried to render it out of adobe premiere, and i tried at least a dozen times. finally i jsut recorded the screen with my web cam. giving it another, though not anticipated level of video.

Many of the performance and art pieces i found to be disturbing, plain and simple, but others made you think and understanding the political, geographical, and social context of there expression made me be more open, even if i still didn't like it. Bill Viola was one video artist that i think was really cool. his Dual fire and water piece was fascinating, especially since i love opposite things. Rokeby was another that caught my attention. he walked around with a eeg creating music out of his brainwaves. this reminds me of the show dollhouse in which peoples minds are wiped clean and new personalities are inputed to the clients liking. its a scary thought that we are not more than a machine. but an interesting concept.
